LinkedIn TalentConnect 2019 Highlights

A few of us from Second City Works braved the late-September Dallas heat to eat some brisket, listen to country music, and attend LinkedIn’s TalentConnect conference bringing together over 4,200 recruiting, HR, and learning professionals. This year’s theme was “Better Together” and focused on topics including diversity and inclusion, employee engagement, and leading with humanity.

If you weren’t able to make it, no need to have FOMO. You can watch the keynotes to live vicariously through our experiences.

Here are our top 5 highlights from TalentConnect (in no particular order):

1. Hosted a playful, experiential learning session about how to keep top performers engaged after the new hire honeymoon wears off.

2. Listened to Dean Carter, CHRO of Patagonia, talk about how to build a company culture of ridiculously passionate and engaged employees.

"Don't hire for culture fit. Hire for culture add."

3. Being energized by the passion and determination of Dallas Mavericks CEO Cynthia Marshall and how she turned around the NBA club’s toxic work environment in a 100-day plan.

"Lead with intention, insight, inclusion & inspiration. Be all IN."

4. Learned from KraftHeinz CLO Pamay Bassey on how she walks the walk after launching #LearnLikeAnOwner, an internal campaign committed to continuous development.

5. Basked in the glow of Michelle Obama’s (!!!) presence as she trumpeted the importance of diversity, overcoming self doubt, and being true to your authentic self.

Looking forward to the clam chowder, baked beans, and inspiring conversations next year at TalentConnect 2020 in Boston!
